Air Force Col. Robert Behnken, one of two test pilots for SpaceX Crew Dragon, which was set to launch today from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida is from St. Louis - St. Ann more specifically. He graduated from Pattonville High School. The launch was delayed due to unfavorable conditions, but is now scheduled for Saturday, May 30th.
This week the City of St. Louis began accepting applications from city businesses for permits to temporarily expand their outdoor dining areas are creatively use private property, adjacent sidewalks, and public streets for more socially distant dining.
Arts United STL a benefit broadcast for the St. Louis arts community will air at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31st. The benefit, hosted by Opera Theatre, the Regional Arts Commission, the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, HEC Media, and more than 15 other organizations will feature an inspiring evening of performances spanning the best of St. Louis’ music, theater, dance, visual art, and more. You can watch the broadcast on HEC-TV, Spectrum Channel 989 or AT&T U-verse Channel 99, or live on Opera Theater St. Louis YouTube channel and website. The benefit hopes to raise at least $250,000 for the Artist Relief fund.
Because of Arts United STL, RAC will re-open applications for their Artist Relief Grants on Friday, May 29th. The grants help full or part-time active artists impacted by COVID-19 in the eight-county St. Louis region one-time request for either $500 or $1,000. The application period will remain open until June 12.
The Restaurant Rally at City Foundry on April 26th raised $50,000 for The Gateway Resilience Fund, which provides monetary relief for service industry workers affected by COVID-19, and The Little Bit Foundation, which supports impoverished children in the St. Louis area.
John Krane and six other St. Louis–based musicians released a new single to benefit the St. Louis Arts and Music Aid Fund. They all recorded their portions separately and are offering the track free to download - but request a donation to the fund in return. Emma Tiemann (violin), Garrett Schmidt (flugelhorns), Chris Turnbaugh (bass), Dustin Sholtes (keys), Ryan Adams (drums), John Krane (vocals and electric guitar), and Katie Jones (vocals) worked on the track.
St. Louis County Parks are open with restrictions. Restrooms are closed, masks are encouraged, and groups outside of your household are discouraged.
St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Jim Edmonds has beat COVID-19 and donated plasma to aid others fighting the virus.
City Hall will begin opening back up to the public on June 1st. Visitors will need to wear masks as well as provide their names, phone numbers and reason for coming.
Helium Comedy Club will re-open in June with health and safety precautions.
The burnt-out church in Grand Center will be cared for and turned into a park by the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.
