Why I Launched Spotlight On St. Louis and What You Can Expect

St. Louis doesn't get the love it deserves.

That’s my humble position at least and that’s why Spotlight on St. Louis exhits. We’re a media company that strives to bring the best of St. Louis to the city and the wider world. Through a variety of different mediums, we will highlight this transforming city and encourage St. Louisans to make the city better and take on our challenges.

I (Amanda Honigfort, the founder) am a native-born St. Louisan who moved away after university to pursue a career in public media. I was always a protective of my hometown, but was excited to spread my wings.

Upon returning home in 2016, I found St. Louis had been undergoing a massive transformation and so many amazing, restaurants, groups, and small businesses had started sprouting up. A vibrant startup scene had taken root, and the city was actively talking about increasing public transportation, greenways, and reunifying the city and the county - all of which would propel this renaissance forward.

As I explored my city, and learned more about what was going on I fell more in love with St. Louis and wanted to help move this city forward, help St. Louisans’ shake our inferiority complex of this city, and help us regain our place as one of the premier cities in the United States. There is so much cool stuff happening in St. Louis - you just have to pay attention.

Hence, Spotlight On St. Louis.

We’ll focus on Saint Louis accolades, food, lifestyle, history, issues, ideas, stuff to do - you name it. We’re here for new, prospective, and long-term Saint Louisans, and this new site will aim to foster greater interest in, knowledge of, and enthusiasm for St. Louis.

I have a promise for you about our coverage: The stories you'll find at Spotlight On St. Louis are different from traditional journalism as we are a community resource, and as such will sometimes offer opinions and will be involved in the St. Louis community. However, we will strive to always be fact-based, use full disclosures, and offer reasons for any opinions we may share.

We’ll strive to be a great on-the-go or resource for St. Louisans by St. Louisans.

I hope St. Louisans will connect through our social media, our content and through getting out more and meeting more people and will inspire them to come together to make our city even greater.
