St. Louis Women-Owned Restaurants, Coffee Shops and Bakeries To Eat At On International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day & Women’s History Month! We all know how good the St. Louis food scene is. With an absence of events due to the pandemic and the amazing patio weather in the forecast, today is a great day to support some of our women-owned restaurants!

Brunch

Colleen’s Cookies - Owned by Colleen Thompson, this place has such fantastic food. Colleen is real and she seems like an awesome person too. Almost all of their cookies are sooo delish and I promise you - you have never had a better crust on Quiche.

La Patisserie Chouquette - Simone Faure is a master of French Patisserie and has been selling out of some of her most popular items within mere minutes of opening her online store lately.

Yolklore - Mary Bogacki creates unique and well-loved breakfast items and pastries at this Crestwood establishment.

Coma Coffee - established in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2016 by siblings Macy and Corbin Holtzman, this coffee and breakfast joint just moved to a beautiful new space within the U Club Tower.

Hello Juice & Smoothies - Co-owned by Kayla Bauer and her husband Jordan, they have smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juice, waffles, and toast at their beautiful Tower Grove establishment.

C. Oliver Coffee + Flower Bar - That flower wall…. nuf said.

Fiddlehead Fern Cafe - Owner by Darcy Heine has created a beautiful, light-filled cafe that makes having a loaded toast and coffee extra enjoyable. We’ll be looking forward to that simple joy returning soon, but for the moment they are supplying patrons of their Shaw neighborhood cafe via a safe take-out window.

Kaldi’s Coffee - Part owned by Tricia Zimmer Ferguson

Rise Coffee - Jessie Mueller founded and recently bought back the coffee house in the Grove.

Lunch

Balkan Treat Box - Everything Loryn Nalic makes there is delicious. But you probably already knew that.

Gioia’s Deli - Co-Owned by Cathy Donely this sandwich staple on The Hill is particularly well known for their hot salami.

The London Tea Room/The London Tea Merchant - Their afternoon tea… and the Naughty Vicar tea… truly wonderful.

Farmtruk - Samantha Mitchell brings the farm-to-table concept to the food truck scene. You can often find them at 9 Mile Garden or at other events.

Winslow’s Table - co-owned by Tara and Michael Gallina who rose to St. Louis fame with the opening of Vicia.

Dinner

Frida's & Deigo’s - These sister restaurants sit right next door to each other and are run by Natasha Kwan and her husband Rick Roloff. They specialize in vegetarian and Hispanic food respectively.

Katie's Pizza and Pasta Osteria (Katie Lee-Collier)

Lona's Lil Eats - This James Beard-nominated restaurant owned and operated by Lona Luo is well worth the visit.

Cathy’s Kitchen - owned by Cathy Jenkins, the restaurant in Ferguson’s unique menu is divided into sections based on her travels.

Il Fratellini, Bar Les Freres, and Billie Jean – None of Zoe Robinson’s restaurants are open right now due to COVID-19, but when Bar Les Freres re-opens this spring, this writer, in particular, will be thrilled. The French food prepared at Bar Les Freres, and the experience provided, are top-notch - something you can expect at any of Robinson’s restaurants.

Kalbi Taco Shack (Sue Wong-Shackleford)

Lemmons by Grbic - This family affair, has Senada Grbic heading the kitchen and hosts private events in addition to dinner guests.

Cafe Natasha & The Gin Room – Hamishe and Natasha Beirhami own this fabulous Persian restaurant and staple of South Grand.

Mayo Ketchup - Mandy Estrella started out as Plantain Girl, you may have seen her stint inside Alpha Brewing, and now owns and runs Mayo Ketchup in Lafayette Square.

Nudo House - Chef Marie-Anne Velasco co-owns Nudo House STL with Qui Tran and the ramen is said to be mind-blowing.

Vicia is also co-owned by Tara and Michael Gallina, along with Winslow’s Table.

PW Pizza, Vin de Set, 21st Street Brewer Bar, Rhone Rum Bar, Charleville Brewing Co., and Hamilton’s Urban Steakhouse & Bourbon Bar - are all co-owned by Wendy Hamilton through her and her husband Paul’s company Hamilton Hospitality.

Dessert

How Sweet is This Itsy Bitsy Candy Shoppe - a fun, retro candy store, is located in DeMun and specializes in gourmet chocolates, a wide variety of gummies, nostalgic candies, and gifts.

Clementine’s Creamery - Tamara Keefe’s whipped up delicious flavors you won’t find anywhere else, also a front-runner and trailblazer for boozy ice cream with four very Instagramable locations around town. Need I say more?

Made. By Lia - You can find all sorts of treats at Lia Weber’s bakery in Florissant. You have never had such an amazing gluten-free scone. I promise you.

Whisk & Poptism - Kaylen Wissinger’s sustainable bakeshop on Cherokee Street has delicacies you’ve never even dreamed of.

Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream - Opened by Beckie Jacobs in 2003, you can find them at their home base in Webster or as the Fire and Ice Cream Truck.
